Microsoft is preparing for the release of Windows 12. Although there is no official release date yet, there are increasing indications that we can expect the next major version in fall 2024.The world of operating systems is facing a new era: As early as July 2022, rumors were circulating about a possible release date in autumn 2024, based on insider information from Windows Central. These speculations were based on Microsoft's traditional three-year cycle for major versions, which was already used for Windows 7 and 8. After the release of Windows 11 in October 2021, it would have been only logical that Windows 12 would follow three years later. However, a surprise came at the end of May 2024: Microsoft presented the new device class Copilot+PC and at the same time unveiled Windows 11 version 24H2, also known by the code name "Germanium". This version of Windows 11 brings new AI features such as the controversial reminder tool Recall. The move to further develop Windows 11 could be justified by the fact that Microsoft will not stop supporting Windows 10 until October 14, 2025. This would mean that Microsoft would have to provide updates and support for three major Windows versions at the same time by this time. It now seems clear: Windows 12 will replace the popular Windows 10 and will be available by October 15, 2025 at the latest. This development promises not only technological innovations, but also an improved user experience across platforms.
