The Intel IA64 is a thoroughbred 64 bit CPU, but has problems with x86 (32 bit) programs. For this reason it is not exactly the best choice if you do not want to do without the variety of 32 bit programs. Intel also quickly compensated for this and took an example from the AMD x64 processor and brought the "Extended Memory 64 Technology", abbreviated EM64T, with which one can also address more than 4 GB of memory in order to also be able to execute the AMD64 commands. There are still Windows servers from MS designed for IA64, but IA64 will probably not catch on. In the Windows world it probably remains with the two systems x64 and x86. I myself was a big fan of Intel processors, especially those who still know the Intel Pentium Pro , as well as the Pentium III , up to the Intel 4 processors. So I said goodbye to Intel and turned to the AMDx64 . In the meantime Intel has made up for a lot with the EM64T processors. Let's see, maybe I'll get my taste for Intel again. As a private user, you should definitely use AMD's x64 or Intel's EM64T. I still favor AMD's X64 because the Intel P4s disappointed me very much and this wound has not healed to this day :(. But as I said, I don't want to influence anyone here. What I don't like is that AMD is now almost exclusively in China I liked the old "Made in Texas" more than the new "Made in China". Yes, love money. But I think Intel does that too. As EM64T there are: Pentium 4, Intel Celeron, Core 2 Quad, Intel Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7, i9 ..... As X64 there are: AMD from K8 Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Mobile Athlon 64 , Mobile Sempron, Opteron, Sempron, Turion 64, AMD Ryzen 3, 5, 7 .... As IA64 there are: Intel Itanium, Itanium 2 .....
